How does Thiocolchicoside work?
Thiocolchicoside is a muscle relaxant and works on certain parts of the brain and spinal cord, as a result, relieves muscle stiffness or spasm without reducing the muscle strength. Hence improves pain and movement of muscles.
Thiocolchicoside Dosage
This drug is prescribed in adults and adolescents from 16 years onwards. Not recommended for pediatric use. Thiocolchicoside is not recommended for long-term treatment of chronic conditions.
Doses should be restricted as follows and the recommended dose and duration should not be exceeded:
Oral forms:
Recommended and the maximal dose is 8 mg every 12 hours, i.e. 16 mg per day. The treatment period must be limited to 7 consecutive days.
IM form:
Recommended and the maximal dose is 4 mg every 12 hours, i.e. 8 mg per day. The treatment period must be limited to 5 consecutive days.
Thiocolchicoside Side effects
Like any kind of drug would have few side effects too, it also has some side effects like mentioned below. These side effects might not occur in every individual. But if they happen and never hinder sooner, it is strongly recommended to consult the doctor immediately to avoid any medical complications.
- Abdominal pain
- Drowsiness
- Gas
- Nausea
- Allergy
- Dry mouth
- A sudden drop in Heart rate and Blood pressure might happen in very rare cases, thus recommended to use only under medical supervision.
Thiocolchicoside Contraindications
Thiocolchicoside is not recommended for the following conditions:
- Allergic to Thiocolchicoside
- Hypersensitivity to Thiocolchicoside
- Peptic ulcer
- Acute Rhinitis
- Asthma
- If you have an allergy towards Aceclofenac
- Breastfeeding
- Pregnant
Precautions before using Thiocolchicoside
It is advised to take proper guidance with the doctor before taking any medicine. Inform your Doctor about your medical condition, and about any medication that you might be following for any other health problems. Inform your doctor if you are using any health supplements like a vitamin or herbal supplements. Some health conditions with a combination of this drug may lead to more side effects. So inform your doctor about any health issues you have to avoid any such side effects.
- As this drug has a sedative effect, if used along with alcohol or any other sedative drugs like anti-depressants, it would further increase the effectiveness of such drugs. So be cautious if you are using any such medicine.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of any kind of kidney or liver health issues, or if you are pregnant women or breastfeeding mother
- Thiocolchicoside is advised to take post food or at least with some light liquid food to avoid getting an upset stomach
- Diclofenac which is an ingredient in this medicine could raise a risk of blood clots, heart attack, or a stroke in some rare cases
General warnings
Overdosage
Taking more than the prescribed dose of this medicine might cause harmful side effects. Consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you find any such side effects.
Missing dosage
If you missed a certain dosage take as soon as possible, and if it is nearing next dose, skip the missing dose and continue the regular dosage. Never take extra doses.
Pregnancy
It is not recommended for use in pregnant women
Breastfeeding
Thiocolchicoside is not safe to use during breastfeeding. Hence not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
