What is Nupenta?

Nupenta contains Pantoprazole as its active ingredient which is a proton-pump inhibitor drug. It is used for acidity, heartburn, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, intestinal ulcer, esophageal mucosal injury, benign gastric ulcer, benign duodenal ulcer, Oesophagus inflammation, stomach ulcers, and other conditions. Peptic ulcer

Nupenta is effective in peptic ulcers treatment, which develops on the lining of the stomach, Oesophagus, and small intestine.

Esophageal Mucosal Injury

Esophageal Mucosal Injury is an injury caused by GERD (Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease), which leads to an increase in gastric juice to the esophagus (food pipe or gullet). However, it can be treated with Nupenta.

Gastrinoma/ Gastrin- secreting Tumor

Prescribed to treat early stages of Gastrinoma.

Nupenta during Pregnancy

Pregnancy induces a surge of various hormones, which may lead to various imbalances in body including frequent acid refluxes and gastric issues. Normally, Nupenta is safe for pregnant women to cure acid reflux.

Helicobacter pylori Infection

Very useful in treating Helicobacter pylori infection. Helicobacter pylori are bacteria spiral in shape, which grows in the digestive tract and infects stomach linings.

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Nupenta is used to treat Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome which is a condition where an excessive amount of acid is produced in the stomach due to tumors in the small intestines.

Nupenta Side effects

Although Nupenta is one of the most effective medicines to treat gastrointestinal disorders and acid reflux, it has certain limitations. Consult your physician in case you experience any of the below symptoms:

Running nose and sore throat Cough – Nupenta can cause irritation in the throat and nasal tract.

Headache And Nausea, Vomiting – In the case of children, Nupenta can cause these problems.

Loss of appetite – Nupenta may lead to food averseness and make you undernourished. It can also create metallic taste with a dry mouth.

Diarrhea – Sometimes, you may experience loose stools with other stomach discomforts such as pain and flatulence.

Skin Infection – This medicine sometimes can lead to skin rash and swelling.

Contraindications for Nupenta

Do not this medicine if you are suffering from the following condition:

Allergy

This is not prescribed for use in patients who have a known history of the following conditions

  • Allergy to Nupenta  and its ingredients
  • Atrophic gastritis
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • Low amount of magnesium in the blood
  • Bone fractures
  • Clostridium difficile bacteria related colitis
  • Inadequate vitamin B12

Nupenta Dosage

It is not an OTC (over-the-counter) medicine and does require a prescription from a qualified doctor. Nupenta tablet should be swallowed as a whole with water and usually at a fixed time of the day.

Precautions Before taking Nupenta

  • Use this medicine only if prescribed by the physician
  • Do not consume alcohol while using Nupenta which can increase the risk of stomach damage.
  • Stop consuming alcohol for at least three days after the last dosage of this medicine
  • Take the full course of treatment
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any medicine
  • Tell your doctor if you are suffering from any disease
  • Do not take Nupenta  if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine or any of their excipients
  • Do not take this Nupenta  after the expiry date stated on the carton package
  • Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

General warnings

Overdosage

Taking more than prescribed Nupenta may cause harmful side effects. Consult your physician or pharmacist if you find any side effects.

What if you missed a dose?

If a regular dose is missed out by mistake, try to consume as soon as you remember, and if it is nearing the next scheduled time, then just skip the missed one and continue with the next scheduled one. Do not take extra doses.

Pregnancy

Nupenta is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary and the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Nupenta is not known to cause any harm to the fetus, but should only be used after consultation with your physician.

Breastfeeding

Nupenta is safe to use during breastfeeding. Before taking Nupenta, consult your physician.

Nupenta – Drug Interactions

If you use other over the counter products or other drugs at the same time, the effects of the Nupenta may change. Moreover, this might lead to a higher risk of getting side effects, and this medicine might be less effective.
