What is (Ticagrelor) Brilinta?
Brilinta is an antiplatelet drug that is used to prevent harmful blood clots formation by blocking platelets from sticking together. It helps to reduce the risk of getting further heart attack or stroke or to prevent blood clots in stents particularly in patients who already have pre-existing heart disease. It can be used individually or in combination with other medications like aspirin.
Risk of heavy bleeding is high while under this medication, hence advised to be careful while doing activities that have the risk of having a cut that might cause bleeding such as shaving, cutting fingernails while using sharp tools, etc. Patients with a history of any active bleeding like bleeding in the brain or bleeding stomach ulcer should refrain from using Brilinta.
