What is Bandrone Tablet?
Bandrone tablet is an oral drug which is used to treat and prevent various bone disorders such as osteoporosis. It is also used to treat Paget’s disease ( abnormal bone formation). Read on to know about working, side effects, precautions, and contraindications of Bandrone Tablets.
Composition & Strength of Bandrone Tablet
The active ingredient of Tablet is ibandronate and available in the strength of 50 mg and 150 mg and is for oral use.
How does Bandrone tablet work?
Osteoclast are the cells responsible for bone resorption. Bandrone inhibits the activity of these cells leading to reduced bone resorption and also lowere the bone turnover rate.

Bandrone Tablet is used in patients suffering from the following conditions:
It is a type of bone disorder in which bone becomes weaker and thinner and increases the risk of fractures in post-menopausal women. As the women approaches menopause, the bone resorption increases due to reduced level of estrogen.
It is a chronic bone disorder in which in body resorbs old bone and the process of bone formation is abnormal. Such condition leads to bone deformity, fracture, pain and weakened bones.

- Flu-like syndrome

Bandrone Tablet Contraindications
Bandrone Tablet should not be used if you have the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to ibandronate or any of the ingredient of bandrone tablet
- Renal dysfunction
- Blood clotting disorder
- Esophageal ulcer
Bandrone Tablet Precautions & How to Use
Before taking bandrone Tablet, tell your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. herbal supplements, vitamins, etc.), and the underlying diseases. Tell your doctor/pharmacist If you have any allergy to bandrone tablet or any other ingredients. Inform the doctor if you are taking or plan to take such as angiogenesis inhibitors such as bevacizumab (Avastin), everolimus (Afinitor), any NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, H2 blockers drugs such as famotidine, cimetidine or any oral steroids. If you have any history of calcium deficiency must be told your doctor as you may need calcium supplement.If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, before taking this medicine, consult your doctor/pharmacist.
Bandrone tablet is not suitable for some people so, consult your doctor/pharmacist before taking this drug,
- If you have any history of asthma
- If you are suffering from a blood clotting disorder.
- If you are suffering from renal dysfunction.
Take this medicine advised by doctor/pharmacist. Do not chew and crush this medicine. Swallow as a whole with water. Bandrone tablet is not recommended for children.
General warnings and Dosage
If you take an overdose of bandrone tablet, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Taking more than prescribed may cause harmful side effects.
If you missed a dose, take it as soon as possible. If the missed dose is near to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular dose. You should not take the double dose to make up for missed dose.
There is no adequate data available for bandrone tablet in pregnancy. Consult your doctor prioer to take this tablet if you are pregnant of planning to get pregnant.
